PRODUCED AND MIXED AT NASA LABS: I had the urge to hear this track again tonight that I Produced and Mixed at Nasa Labs. It’s a remix of “Slums” from The Reavers. Dates back to about 2007 ish. This particular track features Akir, Privledge, Golden Child, Billy Woods and Vordul Mega. It was on the “New York Times Mixtape” that came out right around when “Terror Firma” came out. Always really liked how it ended up and the fact that Vordul was on one of my beats. Only problem was I couldn’t find the CD and it essentially doesn’t exist online besides at my man Elmattic’s Tumblr and that was shown to me by my man Dali the Goat aka When Giants Meet. Thanks to both of those cats.
PRODUCED AT NASA LABS, Pump Up the Volume by billy woods feat. L’Wren. Happy to say I’m a part of one of the best albums of the year in the role of Producer. History Will Absolve Me is the album and you can get it here at their site, http://backwoodzstudioz.com/history-will-absolve-me-is-out-now or Itunes or anywhere else on the planet. The album has been covered by My Old Kentucky Blog, The Needle Drop and lots of other places you can find hip people. This was actually mixed and mastered by my man Willie Green. Features a chorus sung by L’Wren. Billy breaks down African life under tyrannical leaders. Doesn’t get much better then that.
MASTERED AT NASA LABS, Malta (LESANDS Remix) by Superhumanoids - Check out this remix of the Superhumanoids’ track “Malta” by LESANDS. Really cool 80s synth feel here, but still really fresh and unique for 2012. You can grab it for free right here at LESANDS’ Bandcamp page http://lesands.bandcamp.com/track/superhumanoids-malta-lesands-remix
MASTERED AT NASA LABS - Mirrors (Group Love Remix) by the Superhumanoids. This got mastered here a little while ago now, but was covered by Spinner.com. You can grap the remix for free at the link above. Always nice working with the Superhumanoids, will be posting another project related to them in a sec.
MASTERED AT NASA LABS: Human Story by Hired Gun from the Hits & Pieces EP. I recently got the opportunity to mix and master a full EP from Hired Gun called the Hits & Pieces EP. It features 6 tracks. I’m always really happy when I can guide a projects sound from the mix to the mastering stage and am eager to share what I can do in such situations. On this particular mix I was able to do some cool stuff with automated panning and some distorted vocal effects to add contrast to the chorus vocal among other things. The album is full of treats, The Pressure is another of my favorites on here. Go and support Hired Gun at http://freshroots.bandcamp.com/
FRESH OUT THE LABS: Bombs Not Rations (Nasa Remix - feat ADAM) by DCK VNNGT. Nasa Produced this track, Mixed it and Mastered it at Nasa Labs. Also jumped on it as ADAM too. Check out more from DCK VNNGT on December 10th when they drop MRDR DTH KLL on Uncommon Records.
Just updated my discography to include some recent projects and converted the whole thing over from a Document to a Spreadsheet so it’s easier to read. Take a trip down memory lane with me there. To get in touch about mixing/mastering/production/cameos email email@example.com.
MASTERED AT NASA LABS - Open Mike Eagle’s New EP, “Extended Nightmares Getdown: The Dark Blue Door” has just been released by Hellfyre Club and premiered at LATimes.com. The EP features production from Busdriver, Blockhead, Awkward and more. Check out this track from it called “Experimental Dream FLCL” which was produced by Awkward.
Mike is a really talented emcee and musician, it was great working on a project of his, this one is free so definitely go and check it out. He will be performing at Yule Prog in NYC at Southpaw on December 8th as well, so if you are in the area, go to that show!
MASTERED AT NASA LABS - “Slum Dog Millionaire” by Black Panther feat. Nine & Vanessa Liftig. I just mastered Black Panther’s new LP called “Soul Eater”, it was released last Tuesday. I had the pleasure of mastering this track featuring one of my High School heroes, Nine (best known for Whutcha Want?, Make or Take and other classics). It was great to hear him still at top form these years later. The album also features Masai Bey, Respect Da God, Shabaam Shadeeq, Oktober Zero, Mr. Metaphor and many more. It’s entirely produced by Black Panther. Grab it right now at Itunes. Find out more about Black Panther here: DJBlackPanther.com.
MASTERED AT NASA LABS: Gajah (from Acid Reign) hit me up last minute for a late night mastering session last night for his new EP, “Man the Ship”. Of course, I was there for him because that’s how we do at Nasa Labs. Check out the amazing EP here. The song posted is called “Sound Blast”. Support Acid Lab Records on their debut release.
MASTERED AT NASA LABS: I’m Wize (feat. Sadat X) by Wize One from Godsendant Music. Just finished this one up a few weeks ago and it’s already available on Amazon as a single. Nice big sound from this one with the cameo from the legend, Sadat X.
MASTERED AT NASA LABS: “Lose Control” by Leadheart Deadbird. This track is on the full length mastered at Nasa Labs called, “72”, it features lots of live band hip-hop like this. Really dynamic sounds that show off the talent of the band and the capability at Nasa Labs. Go get the album now at http://leadheartdeadbird.bandcamp.com/ (there’s a Digipack CD version there as well as the Digital DL).
Mastered at Nasa Labs it’s the Superhumanoids “Malta (Lesands Remix)” released by RCRD LBL. Check out this terrific track from the Superhumanoids. From the RCRD LBL site:
Lesands’ fat ‘80s bass and cloudy guitars don’t fully transform Superhumanoids’ “Malta” into a gossamer pop confection, but considering the weight of Cameron Parkins’ vocals, it’s pretty impressive how close they come. If Morrissey is ever elected prom king, this will play as he’s handed his crown. The original can be found on Parasite Paradise, available digitally and on vinyl.
This track is a great example of what can be done at Nasa Labs, it was a pleasure to work on. Keep your eyes peeled for more Superhumanoids/Hit City USA work mastered at Nasa Labs to hit the internet soon.
Gotta admit, haven’t updated here as much as I would have liked lately. Ideally I’d like to update on what’s happening in the studio daily, or semi-daily. Been so busy, that’s it’s slipped my mind and while that sounds like a ploy, it’s actually true. Here’s a run down:
Finished Maticulous’ EP feat. Ruste Juxx, Rock of Heltah Skeltah and many more.
Finished a single for Sean Torae, Produced by Kev Brown that JUST dropped. We’ll link to that tomorrow.
Finished Mallz’ new LP which is a personal favorite around here at Nasa Labs, look for it in March.
Finished singles for Angle’s dual albums, one of which is produced by DJ Purify (a previous Nasa Labs client)
About to dive into Passive65ive’s new full length “GoodAll” this week.
Finished 3 tracks toward Adam Warlock’s EP including one that features Subtitle and Elucid
Finished 2 tracks toward Short Fuze & Nasa’s upcoming EP, with more on tap this coming week.
All new track for Acid Reign’s upcoming LP, mixing soon.
Finished 15 minute radio demo for a National Sports Host. (Yes, I do that too)
All of this has gone down in the last 30 or so days, probably forgetting some other stuff to be honest. Always something to do, that’s the way we like it here.
Finished mixing down the “Master Peace” Remix that I did for the upcoming “Toxicology Music EP” last week. That project is new from Short Fuze & Nasa, who dropped “Lobotomy Music” last year on Uncommon Records, mixed & mastered here at Nasa Labs. Also finished the mix down on “Slugging Percentage” from Adam Warlock’s upcoming “Dark Weapons (from Mars)” EP. Look for me to wrap up both of those projects within the next month or so. Other projects will be in and out of the studio as well. Hit me up at firstname.lastname@example.org to talk low rates.
01/03/11 Recently Mastered at Nasa Labs (AUDIO) - “Break” by DJ Brace & Birdapres from their LP “RAW”. Check out this track from the fresh turntablist/break record “RAW” which was Mastered by Nasa @ Nasa Labs. The album features 29 tracks of what the artists call their “first feelings” and captures a “live and off the top feel”. It’s available on Itunes & Bandcamp (Name your own Price). Go pick it up!
After some nice days celebrating with the family, I’m back in the lab mixing and mastering. Today in particular I have started mixing down my remix for a Short Fuze & Nasa track called “Master Peace”.
Recently, I’ve completed mastering 2 album projects. One for Pittsburgh/NYC Producer Maticulous which will be released via Fat Beats and features Ruste Juxx, Rock (from Heltah Skeltah_, Reef, R.A. The Rugged Man, Brown Bag All-Stars and more. It will be available digitally and on Vinyl.
Proud to say I’m mixing down the first of a few tracks for Adam Warlock’s “Dark Weapons” EP. Throwing all the stops at “Chain Lockin’” here. CLA effects on vocals, panned & SansAmped Ad lib track, some various stereo wideners on the main beat elements. This EP will be very loud and very heavy. Look for it Q1 in 2011.
Working on another remix from the Superhumanoids today. Just about to dive in, always good stuff. It’s been busy around here even though I haven’t posted in a while. Sometimes things go by in a blurr, especially this time of year. Got a lot of cool projects lining up over the next few weeks and months. I’ll update what’s going through the studio more often now. I can say that we’ve got an album from Sean Torae coming through for Mastering, already did the single for that one, and an EP from Maticulous as well. Both actually have had the lead single finished here at Nasa Labs and are about to complete projects. Also finished mixing a number of tracks from MANiFEST out of the Fallen Angels crew here in NYC.
Lots of other stuff in the works, some from names you know, some from names you might not, but all dope and exciting. All that along with the usual slate of Uncommon Records work.
Get in touch for mixing, mastering and production at Nasa Labs ASAP to get set up for before or after the New Year. The email is on the site.
Finished up my second mastering of the day and about to try and make a dent on #3. Just finished work on a remix of “Dangerous Strangers” by Superhumanoids, remixed by Meanest Man Contest. I’ve done other work for both groups in the past, always a joy, always something really interesting to get into.
Just finished mastering the single for Maticulous’ upcoming EP. The single is called “Body the Beat” and features Ruste Juxx, R.A. The Rugged Man and Rock from Heltah Skeltah. The joint is bang. All three of them kill it, Rock really flipped some innovative lyrics on it. Was a pleasure to work on. Look for a music video of the track to appear soon. We’ll post it here when that happens.
About to move on to a Meanest Man Contest Remix of a Superhumanoids track. This should also be fun.
Wow, just spent a few hours setting up my sessions for tomorrow. I have a lot going on this week but am always looking for more. Some really cool Masterings and Mixings as well. I’ll give some more info on what all is going on tomorrow when I start to dig into them. It’s important lay out busy days ahead of time though.
Check out “Why?”, a new track by The Presence. It was Produced, Mixed and Mastered by Nasa at Nasa Labs, NYC. It can be found here with the entire “No Dough, No Show” compilation for free: www.nodoughnoshow.bandcamp.com.
The sun rises again after a busy week in Nasa Labs. Mastered 2 full length albums, both really were compilations of sorts, so they had wildly different mixes and production from track to track. The first was Masai Bey’s “Collector’s Bey”, which is a collection (obviously) of classic tracks and exclusives from Masai. It was put out as a free download by Uncommon Records, you can hear it/get it here http://uncommonrecords.bandcamp.com/album/collectors-bey.
Then I moved on to the “No Dough, No Show” Compilation, which is a joint venture from Uncommon with Soapbox Clothing coming out of the UK. The compilation features The Presence, Teddy Faley, Atari Blitzkrieg, Willie Green, Agartha Audio, Kitchen Khemistry and many more. Look for it very soon. Somewhere in between I actually did a mixdown for The Presence’s contribution to NDNS, “Why?”.
The next few weeks I’ll be digging into projects from Manifest, Maticulous and Superhumanoids along with the typical Uncommon business.
SXSW is coming up! Write me for low prices as you get ready or for when you return. I’m available at any time at email@example.com.
Finished off the mastering of an Uncommon Records release today. It’s called “Collector’s Bey”. It brings together classic tracks, rareities and even some live audio from Masai Bey. It was really fun to work on this since I’ve been a fan for so long and had some hand in helping put the tracks on it. I know if I’d be happy with this if I was waiting on something from Masai right now. This will be the perfect free DL to tell people, “you never heard Masai?, go get this NOW”. It will be out on October 4th, 2010.
09/19 Mastering Shapeshifters by Local Natives/Superhumanoids
Another cool remix by the Superhumanoids, this time of a Local Natives track called “Shapeshifters” come through the Labs today. Love working on this stuff because it’s different then a lot of my other clients right now. Look for this track during the week online, and if you like what you hear when it drops, check me out for low rates on mastering.
Really cool stuff here from @DJ_Brace. Only a few songs in and already can see where he’s going with this and it’s to good places. A fun mastering session with a lot of shifts dynamically from song to song. Check out this DJ Brace LP when it drops in a few months from now for sure. I can be reached for mastering (and mixing/production) at firstname.lastname@example.org.
LA Weekly covered the Superhumanoids Remix of “8050 (Too Fast, Too Slow)” by White Arrows which was Mastered right here at Nasa Labs. The article links to Bandcamp where you can download the song for free and hear it.
Mixing down this track from Manifest (@manifestmusic) called “Be Myself” today. More details on the track soon. This is the start of a pretty busy time at Nasa Labs. Lots of new mix and mastering projects starting up. Never too busy for you though, get in now. Write me at email@example.com.
